NT Gas is a pipeline infrastructure management company established in 1985, commencing operations in 1986, to transmit and deliver natural gas to the Northern Territory of Australia.
The major pipeline operated by NT Gas is the Amadeus Basin to Darwin pipeline. It is the second longest pipeline in Australia and delivers over 20PJ of natural gas to our major customer, the Power and Water Corporation for electricity generation.
NT Gas Distribution, a subsidiary of NT Gas, reticulates gas in Darwin's industrial area (Berrimah & Trade Development Zone area) and is currently looking to expand its reticulation system to other areas.
Ownership – The major shareholder of NT Gas and unitholder of the Amadeus Gas Trust, is the Australian Pipeline Trust, part of the APA group of companies (APA). APA owns, or has an interest in, over 10,000 kilometres of gas transmission pipelines in Australia and transports close to 25% of Australia's natural gas consumption. APA is a major ASX-listed energy transmission company in Australia.
Other shareholders of NT Gas are Darnor Pty Ltd (a subsidiary company of Power and Water Corporation) and Centrecorp Aboriginal Investment Corporation Pty Ltd (a Central Land Council operative).
Gas Transmission
NT Gas transmits natural gas through 2,000 kilometres of pipelines. The Amadeus Basin to Darwin Pipeline is a covered pipeline under the Gas Access Code and Tariffs are regulated in accordance with our Access Arrangement.
Infrastructure Services - NT Gas relies upon skilled personnel to carry out our infrastructure services. We provide 24 hours a day service in remote areas and have a sophisticated communications system to monitor the pipeline and ensure peak performance of infrastructure assets and community safety.
Project Capability - NT Gas has a proven record of project delivery on time and on budget. We can design, procure and commission assets with special attention to community, environmental and cultural heritage considerations.
Safety and Environment - NT Gas is a leader in terms of health, safety and environmental performance. We have an impeccable safety record and have now been Lost Time Injury free since 1998.
Quality – NT Gas is quality accredited to ISO 9001. Continuous improvement is critical to our business and we have won a number of awards for our management systems.
Risk Management – NT Gas utilises a risk management in its approach to business across the board. The company has proven standards, policies, and risk management systems. As a result, we have maintained a low claims history.
Land Management – NT Gas has experience in dealing with the Aboriginal Lands Right Act since 1985 and the Native Title Act. Our pipelines traverse a substantial portion of aboriginal land or land under claim. We have successfully negotiated access to aboriginal land and are without incident regarding cultural heritage.
